What are the best office equipment out there for going paperless and for managing documents?

Any ideas on what the best products are?

Well, the main products you will need is a high speed sheet fed scanner, Adobe Acrobat Professional, an external hard drive, a cross-cut Paper Shredder, and probably some cleaner fluid for your scanner to clean off any residual ink or toner off the glass surfaces.

For the scanner I would recommend the Fujitsu Scansnap. If there’s a better scanner for the price I’d like to know what that is. Stay away from the flat bed scanners, those are a rip off and are pretty much worthless. Now, if you’re really strapped for cash and need a laserjet mfc with a fax, copier, and printer then I would recommend the Brother MFC’s. The scanner is sheet-fed, but is pretty slow compared to the Fujitsu. Especially with color scans, those can be at a snail’s pace, but all in all, it’s a good bargain.

With hard drives I would recommend the iomega ruggedized versions. There’s a video at Popular Mechanics where they show someone running over one of those hard drives with a truck and they drop it 15 feet onto hard concrete and they still keep on ticking.

There are a number of different products that could help accomplish these goals, including scanners and other forms of digital readers, software, and storage solutions from portal drives to servers. You’ll get a better response if you ask a more specific question. About which piece of technology for what part of the document management process do you really need information?

For complete scanning paperless solutions (Hardware and Software) try http://girardsinc.com – they also have RDX technology storage solutions Prostor Infinivault – cheaper than tape, optical or fixed disk systems.

    and
a good start towards greener mailing would be no envelopes at http://pressure-sealing-business-equipment.com they have office folders that process straight from computer-laserprinter-tomailready.

Have you heard of Office Live Workspace? Sounds like it might be a good fit for you. It’s an online storage solution that allows you to access, edit, and share your documents, and you get 5GB free. It syncs with Microsoft Office, too.

Here’s how it helped one teacher go paperless in the classroom – just one of the many examples – that might help give you a little picture of what Office Live Workspace is like: http://ask.officelive.com/workspace/blogs/workspace_team/archive/2009/03/18/using-workspace-to-create-a-quot-paperless-quot-environment.aspx

You can learn more about it at http://workspace.officelive.com.

Best of luck on your paperless journey!
